ANNUAL SLAUGHTER OF NATIVE DUCKS

The Victorian State election will be on Saturday 29th November 2014.

To date there has been no mention of duck hunting, by either side of politics.

There is every possibility that there will be another Duck Season in 2015 as this still seems to be present Goverment policy.                                                                                                                                           The coming summer shows every sign of being long, hot & dry. if wetlands dry out on a large scle then duck numbers will fall dramatically.

An open season on ducks will be devastating to their numbers.

Even the rarest of our waterfowl are not protected against this annual slaughter of our native ducks.

The Freckled Duck has been listed as threatened under the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act in Victoria and has been classified as ‘endangered’.

On a national basis, the species is listed as rare and threatened.

Although they are the rarest of our native waterfowl and highly protected they are still targeted by duck shooters.                                                                                                                                                       Many of these rare and endangered ducks were slaughtered by duck shooters last duck season, as were numerous other protected species.

Unfortunately it appears few shooters were prosecuted by the authorities.

With a state election looming on the horizon perhaps we should question our politicians about their attitudes to duck shooting!

Before the November election!

Surveys show that most Victorians are against the annual slaughter of our native ducks.

Before the November election!!

According to the RSPCA

One in every four waterbirds shot down will suffer a slow and agonising death. Instead of abolishing this barbaric activity, the Victorian government promotes hunting, investing $17.6 million of taxpayers’ dollars.

‘Yet more than 99% of Victorians choose not to shoot ducks.’
